St. Louis University’s Vedad Ibisevic is named Conference USA freshman of the year. The native of Bosnia and Herzegovina moved as a teenager with his family to St. Louis and played high school soccer at Roosevelt before continuing his career at St. Louis U. Ibisevic leads the Billikens with 21 points on nine goals and three assists as St. Louis U. begins the C-USA playoffs. The Billikens are ranked sixth in the nation. He will be named NCAA freshman of the year, but he will elect to turn pro after the season and begin a long career in Europe that will see him score 127 goals in Germany’s Bundesliga, tying him for 27th all-time. He also will make 83 appearances and score 28 goals for Bosnia and Herzegovina, including a goal against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup. Today, he is a coach for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
