Nov. 29 (1975 & 1980)

Quincy College collects two of its record 11 NAIA men’s soccer championships, defeating Canada’s Simon Fraser both times in the final by 1-0 scores. In 1975, future St. Louis Steamers forward Emilio John (pictured) scores off a corner kick with 30 seconds to play to lift the Hawks over Simon-Fraser. Another future Steamer, goalkeeper Eric Delabar, posts the shutout. In 1980, Quincy edges Simon-Fraser on a goal by Tor Duner 28 seconds into the first overtime. Goalkeeper Jim Harte has the shutout. Duner is a freshman from Sweden and John is a freshman from Nigeria, but most of Quincy’s players come from St. Louis and are coached by St. Louis native Jack Mackenzie.
