Milivoje Cecaric heads in a corner kick for the game’s only goal in the 61st minute as Lindenwood defeats Auburn University-Montgomery in the NAIA championship game in Olathe, Kan. The Lions, who received an at-large bid to the tournament, win their four tournament games by a combined score of 9-1. Lindenwood’s Ignacio Novas is named the tournament’s most valuable player and goalie Edin Sabic is named the outstanding defensive player. The Lions finish with a 19-3-1 record. The NAIA title is the only national championship for the Lindenwood men’s soccer program, which began in 1970. Today’s Lindenwood sports programs compete in the NCAA.
