Chris Cacciatore heads in the winning goal (pictured in dark jersey scoring the goal) in the 66th minute as Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, the 1975 NCAA Division I runner-up, tops St. Louis U., 2-1, in the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinals on a cold and windy afternoon at SIUE. Pete Collico puts the Billikens ahead, but Greg Makowski and Cacciatore score for the Cougars. St. Louis U., ranked 7th in the nation and 1-0 winners over SIUE during the regular season, finish with a 14-4-4 record. The 13th-ranked Cougars improve to 12-3-0. As the higher seed in the regional, SLU chose to play the match at SIUE, whose field is considered to have the best playing surface in the St. Louis area. With a berth in the national final four on the line, SIUE will lose 1-0 in the Midwest final to undefeated Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., on Nov. 28.
