Freshman Kelly Drury (pictured) scores all the goals as Florissant Valley defeats Mercer County, 4-0, in the NJCAA women’s national championship game in Trenton, N.J. She scores just two minutes into the match on an assist from Michelle Wrozier, then makes it 2-0 by scoring on a rebound of Wrozier’s shot off the crossbar. Liane Deetman and Sandy Menker assist on Drury’s second-half goals. Drury, who scored 24 goals during the season, is named the NJCAA offensive player of the year and Flo Valley goalkeeper Angie Viviano is named goalkeeper of the year. Flo Valley’s Karen Lombardo is named the NJCAA coach of the year. The Norsewomen finish the season with a 16-3 record. Drury will go on to set the single-season scoring record at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with 60 points on 26 goals and 8 assists in 1990. A two-time NJCAA All-American who scored 55 goals at Flo Valley, Drury will be inducted into the NJCAA Women’s Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame in 2018.
