Rhamon Silva scores in overtime to give Jefferson College of Hillsboro, Mo., a 2-1 victory over Mercer in the NJCAA men’s Division I national championship game in Tyler, Texas. The Vikings come back after conceding an own goal in the 56th minute. Judner Joseph ties the score in the 60th minute. Jefferson’s Claudiio Dontas is named the tournament’s most valuable player. Jefferson head coach and St. Louis native Stephen Peck Jr. (pictured) is named coach of the year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Vikings finish the season with a 21-3-2 record. The NJCAA title comes in only the second season of men’s soccer at Jefferson, and is the first in any sport for the school, which offered its first classes in September 1964.
