Sept. 26 (2016 and 2018)

Sept. 26 is a big day for goalkeepers from St Louis. Tomas Gomez wins the United Soccer League’s Golden Glove Award in 2016. In 2018, Joe Willis pitches a shutout as the Houston Dynamo downs the Philadelphia Union, 3-0, in the U.S. Open Cup final. Gomez wins his first of two consecutive Golden Gloves for posting the USL’s lowest goals-against average, 0.69, with the Rochester Rhinos in 2016. He will play for St. Louis FC in 2018-19 and will sign a one-year deal with Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer in January 2023. Meanwhile, Willis makes five saves and Mauro Manotas scores twice at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston in the final of the 105th U.S. Open Cup. The Dynamo win their first Open Cup championship. Willis will be traded to Nashville S.C. on Nov. 19, 2019. He will become the starting goalkeeper for the MLS expansion team in 2020 and will play more MLS games in goal (229 as of Sept. 22, 2023) than any other St. Louisan
