St. Louis FC names U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer Preki as head coach. It is speculated that Preki will be in a position to coach a St. Louis entry in Major League Soccer, but the effort to bring MLS to St. Louis apparently will end on April 4, 2017, when voters in the City of St. Louis reject Proposition 2 to funnel a use tax toward construction of a soccer stadium. St. Louis FC will start the season with a 3-0-1 record, but will go 1-4-4 in its final nine games to finish with a 9-14-9 record in 12th place in the Eastern Conference of the second-division USL. Preki will leave St. Louis FC in November 2017 in “a mutual decision to part ways,” according to news reports. Preki, whose full name is Predrag Radosavljević, had a spectacular playing career indoors and outdoors, including scoring 113 goals in 91 games with the indoor St. Louis Storm from 1990-1992 and 50 goals in 145 games outdoors with the MLS Kansas City Wizards from 1996-2000. He was head coach of two MLS teams and two USL teams. He has been an assistant coach with the MLS Seattle Sounders since 2018. St. Louis City SC will conclude its first MLS season at home on Oct. 21 against the Sounders.
