March 2 (1961)

CBC ends a perfect season with a 4-0 victory over St. Louis U. High in the St. Louis District Class A championship game at Fairground Park. Tim Knox nets three goals for the Cadets. Future professional and U.S. National Team player Carl Gentile scores CBC’s other goal. CBC had lost only once the year before, in the district final to Mercy. The district championship is the ultimate accomplishment in St. Louis high school soccer at the time. There will be no Missouri state soccer championship competition until the 1968-69 season. CBC will win the first Missouri state high school title with a 1-0 overtime victory over Rosary on Feb. 22 and finish the season with a 29-3-4 record. Carl Gentile’s brother, Paul, will assist on the game’s only goal by Bob Rapp.
