Duchesne High School’s girls’ soccer team defeats Pembroke Hill, 4-1, in the Missouri Class 2 championship game at Swope Park Soccer Village in Kansas City to become the first boys’ or girls’ team to win four consecutive Missouri state high school soccer championships. (Granite City South’s boys won five consecutive Illinois titles starting with the 1976-77 academic year.) Seniors Courtney Reimer, Emily Bennett, Ryan Kielty and Hannah Shambro are veterans of all four state championship teams at the St. Louis area school. “We’re the only people that can say that they’ve ever done that, so that feels awesome,” Kielty tells stltoday.com. “We just made history.” Kielty scores two second-half goals against Pembroke Hill. Junior Amy Jung and Reimer net the Pioneers’ other goals. Reimer scored two goals and Kielty had one in Duchesne’s 4-0 semifinal victory over St. Pius X of Kansas City. Bennett assisted on four goals in the semifinal and final. Duchesne’s girls, who also won a state title in 2009, will win their sixth state championship in 2019.
