Future Indoor Soccer Hall of Famer David Doyle ends a scoring slump in a big way by netting six goals for the St. Louis Ambush in a 21-17 victory over the Milwaukee Wave before 5,973 fans at the St. Louis Arena. “The last three games, nothing has gone right,” Doyle tells St. Louis Post-Dispatch sportswriter Ray Jordan. “Tonight, the goals came. I was on a roll . . .” So is the Wave’s Dan Donigan, a former St. Louis Storm player and future St. Louis U. men’s head soccer coach. Donigan scores five goals. Steve Maurer scores two for Ambush. Playing in their first season, the Ambush raise their record to 14-10. Doyle, a native of Dublin, Ireland, led U.S. colleges in scoring with 34 goals at Campbell University in 1986. Doyle will play 19 professional seasons, all indoors. His 637 goals and 408 assists will rank him among the top 10 all-time scorers in the history of U.S. professional indoor soccer. His son, Conor, will play outdoors with Derby County in England and with D.C. United and the Colorado Rapids in MLS. Conor Doyle will be a member of D.C. United’s 2013 U.S. Open Cup champions.
