February 2 (1982)

While St. Louis digs out of a 14-inch snowstorm that buried the city on the night of Jan. 30-31, the Steamers are in Philadelphia. Defense is the best offense as the Steamers score a 7-4 win over the Philadelphia Fever. Defender and St. Louisan Sam Bick scores twice (one while the Steamers are shorthanded) and goalkeeper Slobo Ilijevski has an assist, his seventh of the season, on St. Louisan Greg Villa’s second goal of the game. Future Indoor Soccer Hall of Famer  Ilijevski also stops a penalty kick. The victory runs the Steamers’ record to an MISL-best 17-3. The Steamers will go on to reach the MISL finals, where they will lose to the New York Arrows in a best-of-five series that goes the distance.
