Don Ebert, one of the most prolific scorers in St. Louis indoor soccer history, strikes 11:50 into sudden death to give the St. Louis Steamers a 4-3 win over the Tacoma Stars before 11,891 fans at the Arena. The result keeps the first-place Steamers one game ahead of the Kansas City Comets in the MISL’s Western Division. Ebert helped Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville win the 1979 NCAA Division I championship, the last NCAA D1 soccer title won by a St. Louis-area school. He captained the 1980 U.S. Olympic team, which did not play in the Games because the United States boycotted the Olympics. He was the MISL rookie of the year during the 1980-81 season. He will score 239 goals in 260 appearances with the Steamers from 1980-86.
