Future U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer Tom Cahill is born in New York City. Cahill, who will spend much of his early life in St. Louis, will influence soccer tremendously locally and nationally. He will organize and manage teams, will help bring the first English team to St. Louis for exhibitions in 1905 and 1909, and will start what is today the U.S. Soccer Federation, as well as the professional American Soccer League in the northeastern United States. A detailed account of Cahill’s contributions to soccer can be read here.
