St. Louis native Becky Sauerbrunn plays the final 10 minutes of the USA’s 2-1 victory over Japan in the women’s soccer gold medal match at the 2012 Olympics. A Wembley Stadium crowd of 80,203 sees the USA hold on after Carli Lloyd scores twice for a 2-0 USA lead. Sauerbrunn plays a total of 38 minutes in three of the USA’s Olympic matches. She will become a regular at center back for the USA starting in 2013, a role she will play for many of her 216 appearances for the USA until an injury will prevent her from competing in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
