Major League Soccer awards a franchise to MLS4TheLou, a local ownership group consisting of representatives of the Taylor and Kavanaugh families. The Taylors own Enterprise Holdings, headquartered in St. Louis and the world’s largest car rental company. Jim Kavanaugh, a former professional soccer player, is co-founder and chief executive officer of World Wide Technology, a technology service provider based in St. Louis. The fee for the franchise is a reported $200 million. The ownership group pledges to build a stadium just west of Union Station with private funds. The team will be christened St. Louis City SC on Aug. 13, 2020.
