Lewis & Clark Community College, ranked second in the nation, beats No. 1-ranked Monroe, 2-1, in the NJCAA women’s soccer finals to win the Godfrey, Ill., school’s first women’s national soccer championship. Lewis & Clark’s Angie Bodie is named the national tournament’s most valuable offensive player and St. Louisan Tim Rooney is selected coach of the tournament. Bodie and teammate Jamie Dienell will be named first-team NJCAA All-Americans, the second first-team selection for Bodie and the first of two first-team selections for Dienell. Rooney, who started the women’s soccer program at Lewis & Clark in 1993, will guide the Trailblazers to their second NJCAA title in 2008 and an NJCAA single-season record of 26 victories (with one loss). Rooney will go one to compile the most coaching victories in NJCAA women’s soccer history. He will retire after the 2021 season with 476 wins. Rooney also will compile a 400-222-31 record as Lewis & Clark’s men’s coach from 1986-2017.
