March 9 (1984)

The St. Louis Steamers, in their fifth season of existence, surpass the 1.5-million mark in their all-time attendance. A crowd of 13,112 sees the Steamers lose 7-4 to the Cleveland Force at the Arena. The Steamers routinely draw 10,000-plus fans, and frequently sell out, during their first five seasons at the 17,968-capacity St. Louis Arena (known as the Checkerdome from 1977-83 when Ralston Purina owned the building and hockey’s St. Louis Blues). In the game against Cleveland, Louie Nanchoff scores four goals for the Force, who run their MISL-best record to 25-10. Tim Walters has two goals for the Steamers, whose record falls to 18-17.
