March 31 (2018)
Alyssa Mautz scores both goals for the Chicago Red Stars in 3-2 loss to the Portland Thorns in the Red Stars’ NWSL home opener at Toyota Park. The St. Louis native strikes in the 31st minute to tie the game. But Christine Sinclair, who will become the all-time leader for international goals scored by men or women, tallies twice to put the Thorns ahead 3-1. Sofia Huerta, who assisted on Mautz’s first goal, sets up her second when Huerta redirects the ball from the end line to the six-yard box. Mautz arrives simultaneously with the ball and one-touches it into the net. Mautz will finish the season with five goals and three assists in 24 appearances. Mautz, a midfielder and a member of the Red Stars since 2013, will retire on July 30, 2022, with 16 NWSL goals, more than any other St. Louis player.
