The St. Louis Steamers’ Don Ebert is named the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Rookie of the Year. He led all rookies with 65 points on 46 goals and 19 assists to help the Steamers finish first in the Central Division in the 1980-81 season. Known as “the Mad Hatter” for his frequent hat tricks, he will be one of the Steamers’ major offensive threats, with 239 goals in 260 games, until he is traded to the Los Angeles Lazers in 1986.
