The defending NASL champion Rochester Lancers spoil what would have been a good afternoon for the St. Louis Stars by scoring two goals in the last 10 minutes to win, 3-1, in Rochester, N.Y. Rochester’s Iris DeBrito begins the scoring in the 30th minute. Two future U.S. Soccer Hall of Famers, Pat McBride and Willy Roy, combine to even the score in the 43rd minute. Roy, appearing in his second game with St. Louis, converts a pass from McBride that beats Lancers goalkeeper Claude Campos. But Francesco Escos scores in the 82nd minute and Gladstone Ofori nets the clincher in the 89th minute. “Lack of concentration in those last 10 or 12 minutes, that’s what cost us,” Stars player-coach Casey Frankiewicz tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “We gave it away with stupid mistakes.” The loss drops the Stars’ record to 2-8-2. The Stars will go on to finish the season in last place in the NASL’s Southern Division with a 6-13-5 record.
