Defending U.S. Amateur Cup champion Busch overcomes an early deficit with two goals from Sean Mulqueeny (pictured) and a penalty-kick goal from Mark Frederickson to defeat the San Francisco Sons of Italy, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Amateur Cup in San Francisco. San Francisco opens the scoring on a 15th-minute goal from Joe Pimentel. Mulqueeny is fouled in the penalty area two minutes later to set up Frederickson’s PK goal. The game remains tied until Mulqueeny scores on an assist from Joe Mihaljevic in the 60th minute. Mulqueeny’s second goal in the 88th minute seals the win. Busch raises its record to 21-1-1 and will win the championship game against Philadelphia Bayern in Philadelphia on June 21.
