Fire and Ice Soccer Club of Belleville, Ill., wins the Women’s Premier Soccer League title with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Gulf Coast Texans in Norco, Calif. Kelsey Dinges scores both goals. With her team down, 1-0, Dinges is fouled in the penalty area and converts the resulting penalty kick in the 38th minute. Dinges, who played at Althoff High School in Belleville and at Miami of Ohio, nets the winner in the 68th minute on an assist from Tara Sullivan. Fire and Ice also came from behind in the previous day’s semifinals on goals from Dinges and Katya Hessel to beat the San Diego SeaLions, 2-1. Fire and Ice is the 11th club in the 11-year history of the WPSL to win the league title. The WPSL, the second tier of women’s soccer in the United States, fields 112 teams in the 2017 season. The win caps a 12-0 season for Fire and Ice, which outscores its opponents, 44-5.
