Jack Mackenzie, one of the winningest coaches in college soccer history, steps down as head coach at Quincy. His Quincy College/Quincy University teams compiled a combined record of 516-258-76 over his 43 seasons as head coach. His victory total was 14th among all men’s college head soccer coaches through the 2021 season. A St. Louis native, Mackenzie recruited heavily from the St. Louis area and led the Hawks to nine NAIA national championships, including five straight from 1977-81. He was named the NSCAA coach of the year in 1974 and was the NAIA coach of the year four times. The Hawks ranked consistently in the NSCAA’s top 10, and occasionally in the top five, during Quincy’s banner years from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. During their heyday, the Hawks defeated NCAA powerhouses such as St. Louis University and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Mackenzie coached a number of players who went on to professional careers, including St. Louisans and U.S. National Team players Sam Bick and Jim Pollihan.
