Manny Cuenca nets his second hat trick of the season and Carl Rose scores twice in the St. Louis Steamers’ 9-3 win over the Buffalo Stallions before 10,848 fans on a Wednesday night at the Checkerdome. Steamers’ goalkeeper Paul Turin is called on to face two penalty kicks, both by Iubo Petrovic. Petrovic makes the first. But Turin stops Petrovic just 90 seconds later after the Stallions are awarded another PK when Steve Pecher is called for tripping. Turin, who faces 46 shots, is the game’s first star. In their first season, the Steamers are drawing big crowds but struggling in the won-lost column. The victory over the Stallions is just the Steamers’ fifth in 15 games.
