Future U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer Gino Pariani is born. He will play on the 1948 U.S. Olympic team, and will be one of five St. Louisans in the starting lineup of the United States’ epic 1-0 upset of England in the 1950 World Cup. He will score his team’s only goal against Spain in a 3-1 loss at the 1950 World Cup. He also will play on the 1948 and 1950 U.S. Open Cup champion Simpkins Ford.
