Lindsay Kennedy Eversmeyer plays her first game for the St. Louis Steamers before 13,798 fans at the Scottrade Center in a 7-3 loss to the Milwaukee Wave. Her appearance during the last minute of the match is believed to be only the fourth time that a woman has played in a men’s professional indoor game. The 24-year-old will play two more games for the Steamers, who will finish the season with a 20-20 record. The native of Maryville, Ill., had a stellar career at Alton High School, where she was the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Player of the year. She played her freshman season at the University of Kansas and three at Harris-Stowe State College, where she set school career records with 62 goals, 22 assists and 144 points. She was a three-time NAIA All-American honorable mention at Harris-Stowe. Kennedy will go on to play in the WPSL, coach at the collegiate level, and start Fire and Ice Soccer Club as owner-head coach. She will lead Fire and Ice to the 2017 WPSL championship, and is scheduled to be inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame at its annual dinner at Union Station on March 31, 2023.
