The St. Louis Steamers end the regular season in style. Nebo Bandovic nets three goals and Don Ebert has two, including one just 17 seconds into the game, in a 7-6 win over the Chicago Sting before 8,540 fans at The Arena. Ricky Davis and Duncan MacEwan add the Steamers’ other goals. The Steamers finish the season with a 23-25 record, their worst in terms of winning percentage since their inaugural season in 1979-80. They will face the San Diego Sockers, who have a 36-12 regular-season record, in the MISL’s Western Division quarterfinals. The Steamers will lose the series three games to one. Each of the first three games will be decided by one goal, including one that goes to overtime. The Steamers’ only win will be in Game 3, 8-7 at The Arena April 16. The Sockers will go on to win their fifth straight indoor soccer league championship.
