Machel Millwood’s goal at 6:33 of overtime lifts the Baltimore Blast past the St. Louis Steamers to win the MISL championship before 16,061 fans at the Savvis Center (today’s Enterprise Center). The two-game series opened in Baltimore with the Blast winning, 4-2, on April 28. The Steamers thoroughly dominate the second game in St. Louis and win 4-1. The Steamers’ onslaught in game two includes a goal from their regular-season scoring leader Jamar Beasley, the brother of U.S. National Team player DeMarcus Beasley. League rules mandate that the teams play overtime following the second game to decide the title. Taking a pass from his left, Millwood one-times the ball with his left foot into the top near corner of the net, beating goalie Brett Phillips, who will be named the MISL’s Goalkeeper of the Year. The title is the Blast’s third in four years. The Steamers, who had a league-best 23-7 regular-season record, will go out of business after the season.
